Steven Grosso, M.D.

Dr. Steven Grosso was born in Illinois and grew up in Portland, Oregon. Involved in athletic, musical, and academic activities at Jesuit High School, he finished as the school’s valedictorian. He then discovered Montana, where he attended Carroll College in Helena as an honors scholar. He received an Armed Forces Health Professions scholarship after finishing first in his senior class and graduating summa cum laude from Carroll with a degree in Biology.

Medical school was next for Dr. Grosso, and he attended Creighton University, where he developed an interest in surgery and ultimately received his MD degree. He then received an appointment as a surgery resident at the prestigious Vanderbilt University Department of Surgery. Over the next five years he honed his skills as a general and trauma surgeon, while becoming interested in plastic surgery.

After finishing his general surgery training and achieving board certification, he began his military service. Over the next four years, he served as a general and trauma surgeon in the Army, primarily stationed in Europe. There he served as the Chief of Surgery and Chief of General Surgery in field surgical hospitals in Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, and Germany at a time when the Balkans were in fierce combat. He received numerous commendations for his surgical skill, leadership ability in crisis, and even marksmanship.

After a distinguished military career, he was honorably discharged in 2000, where he was accepted in another top institution-the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Alabama. There he worked with some of the legendary figures in plastic surgery to develop skills in all phases of plastic surgery-from pediatric reconstructive surgery to adult cosmetic procedures.

In 2002 he returned to Montana to join Dr. Walt Peet at Yellowstone Plastic Surgery. Dr. Alan Muskett joined the practice in 2005 on Dr. Peet’s retirement. Dr. Grosso quickly developed a large and busy practice due to his command of the entire range of plastic surgery.

Dr. Grosso has been active in local medical leadership positions. He has served as an instructor in Advanced Trauma Life Support, and has served on state Trauma Committees. He has participated in 8 mission trips with Smile Network International, repairing cleft lips and palates in Central and South America, Haiti, and India.

Steve and his wife, Dr. Lorinda Grosso, are parents of Matthew and Megan. They are members of the St. Pius X Catholic Parish in Billings.

Dr. Grosso is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.  He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The Aesthetic Society, the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, and the Montana Medical Association.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons.

Thomas Gallagher, M.D.

Dr. Thomas Gallagher joined Yellowstone Plastic Surgery in August 2021. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He feels humbled and honored to be a part of the highly skilled and seasoned team at Yellowstone Plastic Surgery providing cosmetic and reconstructive care to patients in Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota.

As a Billings native, he enjoyed playing basketball and football, including being part of an undefeated Billings West High School Golden Bear state championship football team. He was active in student counsel and graduated in 2006 as the Valedictorian of his class. He was also fortunate to have been raised by a father who was a physician and a mother who was a nurse. They were both amazing role models in exemplary patient care and helped motivate him to choose a career in medicine at an early age.

Receiving an academic Trustee Scholarship to attend the University of San Diego, Dr. Gallagher graduated summa cum laude with multiple degrees in Business Administration and Chemistry as well as completing all pre-medicine requirements. While attending USD he volunteered with several programs and organizations serving underprivileged community members in both San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico.

Dr. Gallagher was extremely happy and felt fortunate to be able to attend medical school at the University of Washington, which allowed for clinical rotations through the WWAMI collegiate exchange region, being especially grateful to be able to spend time back in Billings, Montana serving his community. His rotations in Billings with Yellowstone Plastic Surgery allowed him to form long lasting relationships with his mentors Dr. Alan Muskett and Dr. Steven Grosso. He committed to an additional year in medical school doing plastic surgery research and finally, made the decision to pursue a career in plastic surgery because he, “enjoyed the extremely broad and fascinating specialty, and the diverse group of patients that we are fortunate to be able to help with a variety of cosmetic and reconstructive needs.” He followed medical school by attending a 6-year Integrated Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency program at Virginia Tech-Carilion in Roanoke, VA. He trained under a talented group of Plastic Surgeons who helped him develop a broad and diverse set of skills, without having to share operative experience with fellows, which is rare in this era of surgical training. He presented new reconstructive techniques at regional and national plastic surgery conferences, and published these techniques in the premier journal of the specialty; the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

He and his wife, who was also raised in Montana, wanted to return to their beloved home state and did so in 2021, allowing him to join his mentors as part of the Yellowstone Plastic Surgery team. They enjoy spending time watching their daughter in competitive sports as well as spending time together with family and friends doing a variety of outdoor activities including downhill skiing and enjoying water sports during our beautiful Montana summers.

PJ Hawkes, M.D.

Dr. PJ Hawkes, a board-certified plastic surgeon, joined the Yellowstone Plastic Surgery team to expand their commitment to providing exceptional, world-class cosmetic and reconstructive surgical care to patients in the Rocky Mountain region. He was raised in Utah and began his education in engineering. He quickly realized that applying his critical thinking and problem-solving skills to the world of medicine could provide patients with a clearer understanding of available options, better care, and improved patient outcomes.

Dr. Hawkes education includes bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Utah, as well as a doctorate from the University of Utah School of Medicine. After medical school he continued his general surgical training at the University of Nebraska and completed his plastic surgery training at the University of Iowa. Upon completion of his surgical training Dr. Hawkes helped build a successful aesthetic surgery practice as an outreach clinic for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He recognized a unique opportunity here in Montana to engage in a broad scope of plastic surgery that allows him to provide both cosmetic and reconstructive surgical services to the community. He utilizes the latest cosmetic surgical techniques to help patients build self-confidence and become the best versions of themselves. He has also been able to successfully broaden the reconstructive surgical options in Montana with the addition of microsurgical techniques. He genuinely cares for his patients and works with them as part of a team while striving to obtain the best results possible.

Dr. Hawkes and his wife, Kelli, have been married for over 20 years and have 3 wonderful children. His time with his family is spent cheering his children on, whether it’s watching figure skating at the ice arena, or on the sidelines at a soccer game. They also love all the wonderful things Montana has to offer in the great outdoors.

Dana Fink, PA-C

Dana Fink is a proud Montana native and Physician Assistant with a dual role at Yellowstone Plastic Surgery, and Premier Aesthetics. She graduated with honors from Montana State University Bozeman with a degree in Sports Medicine, and earned a PA from Rocky Mountain College in 2000, where she also graduated with honors and served as class president.

At Yellowstone Plastic Surgery Dana focuses on dermatology, addressing skin issues relating to sun damage, aging, scarring, and acne. Her work includes comprehensive skin evaluations, and advanced treatments to ensure the best outcomes for her patients.

At Premier Aesthetics Dana specializes in aesthetic medicine, using her extensive experience with facial surgical procedures, cosmetic lasers, and advanced techniques in dermal fillers and Botox to help patients achieve their aesthetic goals with a natural and refreshed look.
She has extended her training to include facial anatomy courses, incorporating cadaver training, to deepen her expertise, and enhance her skills in aesthetics procedures.

Dana remains current with all industry advancements by attending prestigious conferences, and by learning from leaders in both dermatology and aesthetics.

While outside of work, Dana embraces Montana’s natural beauty through fishing, hiking, wake surfing, and scuba diving. These activities keep her active and connected to the great outdoors.
